What happens if my protected domain expires?

If your name expires without your renewal, we place your domain in an inactive protected status for up to 12 months. This protected status keeps the domain in your name; however, it does not keep your related services (such as hosting and email) up and running should your domain name renewal lapse.

You can rescue the domain while it is in this inactive, protected status for the cost of domain name renewal.

What is Protected Registration?

Protected Registration is a premium service that you can apply to most of the domain names you purchase or already registered with us. It helps ensure that you retain ownership of your domain name, regardless of expiration dates or attempts to transfer. With Protected Registration, you receive:

Domain Ownership Protection
Protects you from losing your domain because of a credit card expiration or failure or if you forget to renew your domain or change your contact information. If you fail to renew your domain name, we hold it for up to one year. During that time, it is placed on inactive, protected status with a parked page. We do not keep your related services running if your domain renewal lapses. To rescue the domain, pay the renewal fee.
Deadbolt Transfer Protection
Puts your domain on lockdown, making it impossible for any inadvertent, accidental, or malicious transfer. Unlike regular domain locking, which occurs at the registry level, Deadbolt Transfer Protection offers an even higher level of security — we lock your domain in your account.
Ownership Protection Reports
Annual domain status report and email updates help you keep track of vital domain information.
Private Registration
Typically when you register a domain, your contact information is publically available. Private Registration shields your personal information from public view. You control who reaches you and when.

To ensure that you receive protection for your domain name, a domain that has Protected Registration applied to it cannot be set to manually renew.
